UK Joint Registry Reports DePuy ASR Hip Failing at Higher Rates

The National Joint Registry of England and Wales recently released a new, troubling research report on the poor performance of metal on metal hip replacement systems. According to the New York Times, the ASR hip implant system sold by DePuy is failing at an astounding rate. Nearly one out of every three patients who have received an ASR hip have experienced the debilitating effects of hip implant failure.

The NJR’s research spurred the hip replacement recall implemented globally by DePuy last fall. With an estimated 40,000 of the 90,000 hip implant patients living in the United States, the FDA has ordered implant manufacturers to study how frequently the devices are failing and to examine the negative health effects. Medical experts in the field expect the number of hip implant victims to rise significantly in the near future, with some researchers expecting failure rates as high as 50%. Victims of the DePuy hip implant recall are advised to consult with their orthopedic physician and undergo a test to detect Chromium or Cobalt metal that may be present in the blood stream.

Hip recall lawsuits are being initiated on behalf of victims nationwide. If you or a loved one received a DePuy ASR hip implant system, speak with a qualified and experienced hip recall attorney to discuss your legal options and ensure that your rights are protected to the fullest extent of the law.
